I was looking through my closet recently (getting ready for that closet clear-out for autumn/winter) and noticed that these pieces have been in my closet for quite some time. In case you couldn’t tell, I like neutrals. Not only are these pieces great for day to day, they are the ones I reach for when I travel. This is by no means a complete list, just clothing pieces that are tried and true. I can do an updated list later on as well! These are the exact pieces that I have, some of which have been bought years ago. I’ll try to link everything I can, as well as alternatives.
1. Black Moto Jacket – Classic and timeless, if there’s one piece of clothing to invest in, it’s the moto style jacket. They come in an array of styles and colors, and you’ll find that it’ll be hard to just have one. I chose a black suede version with silver studs because that went with my style best. The one that I own is sold out, but below are some alternatives.
2. Structured Coat– I live in Southern California, so rarely will I need a thick heavy coat, even during the coldest months. I chose this lightweight coat (mine is from last season, but Zara brought it back this year as linked above). Not only is this coat functional, it’s pretty enough to wear to special occasions as well, such as weddings, graduations, and dinners out. This grey color works well year round, and can be worn through all seasons.
3. Longline Cardigan– Great for lazy days, this cardigan creates a cozy feel to your outfit and provides just enough warmth on chillier days. Mine was from Brandy Melville years ago, but I’ve been eyeing this topshop one, too. It’s thicker and provides more coverage than the one I currently have. I chose a maroon/burgundy version to give my wardrobe a little pop of color.
4. Grey sweater– This one doesn’t really need an explanation. Whether dressed up or dressed down, a grey sweater looks effortlessly chic. I chose one from Zara with tie-sleeve detail to give the classic sweater a modern twist. Zara does amazing knitwear, and I linked the current season’s version above.
5. Chambray Shirt– A great piece to have for that casual-cool look. I’ve worn this to meet some girlfriends for lunch as well as simply running errands. My favorite way to style these is with black skinnies and tan riding boots. Linked above is the current version of my shirt from Madewell. No one does chambray better than them.
6. Flannel shirt– I’m really picky when it comes to my flannel. This buffalo plaid pattern in red and blue is such a classic and will never go out of style. You’ll probably be seeing this piece in an upcoming instagram post. I bought this in the summer months and have been counting down the days until I can wear it.
7. White t-shirt– One of the most versatile pieces I own. I love wearing these with blue jeans and a cross body bag for a day of errands, but can also tuck these into a midi skirt for date night. This one from Asos has a very flattering scoop-neck, and comes with a black version as well. I own three of these white tees, and have them in gray and navy, too.
8. Graphic Tee– I love pairing graphic tees with denim shorts for the summertime. Mine was from Levi’s but a graphic tee can be anything that fits your style. Below are some other one’s I have my eye on.
9. Black Skinnies– Black pants are a must. I wear these from Uniqlo to work and on my days off. They’re “legging-pants”, but are definitely a thick denim material appropriate enough for the workplace. So comfortable and such a great fit. I have 4 pairs of these, I think. I’ve lost count.
