Midi skirts are one of my favorite transitional pieces for the fall. It provides a little more coverage for the chillier mornings and nights without having all the bulk of a maxi length skirt. And it’s such a versatile piece. Here are three easy ways to style the midi-skirt throughout autumn and winter.
I pulled out my trusty pink velvet midi from target a couple seasons ago, but I will link some alternatives below. The great thing about these styling tips is that color of the skirt doesn’t really matter. You can use what’s in your wardrobe
Moto Jacket
I love adding some edge to my outfits, especially when pairing and styling more feminine pieces like this skirt. Here I paired the skirt with a white tee and put a moto-jacket over the top to add some contrast. I went for black because I liked the contrast it created with the skirt, but you can easily swap it for a lighter colored jacket for a more neutral look.
As for accessories, I finished off the look with some black opened toed sandals and a white cross-body bag. You can pair the outfit with booties as well, but since I’m only 5’2, the booties paired with the skirt just cut me off at the wrong part of my leg, and made me look shorter.
Button-Down Shirt
For a more put-together look, I like pairing a midi-skirt with a button down shirt. In this case, I went for my chambray shirt from Madewell. I love wearing this look to graduations, bridal showers, or even brunch with the girls!
I’m all about being comfortable and casual, so even though this outfit looks more put together, it still has a great informal feel to it. And again, you can use any button down shirt for this look. A white oxford shirt tucked in would be great for a work day, or a shirt in linen would be great for running errands.
Oversized Sweater
As it starts to get colder, a sweater is a great option to layer with midi-shirts. I chose to do a french tuck here to give myself a little more shape, but the sweater can be worn untucked as well. This pairing will keep you warm without overheating as we slowly start to transition into winter.
I chose this white sweater with tie-sleeve details to make the look a little more interesting. Mine is from last season, but here is the sweater that was brought out for AW 2018. Here is a similar sweater in white
